Below you will find our delicious family recipe.
Green Bean Stew with Smoked Pork
When I was a child, the sweet and sour bean stew was made with pork. I always thought it was delicious!
That’s why I had to get used to it when I met my husband and his bean stew. It’s completely different, but tastes incredibly good!
green bean stew
Ingredients
For a large pot that is enough for 2 greedy adults, 1 uganda mobile database toddler and for leftovers or freezing:
500 g smoked pork chop
2 large cans of green beans
500 g potatoes (we use the floury ones)
2 onions
salt, pepper, savory
if you like: butter and flour for the roux to thicken the stew

preparation
Put the smoked pork chop and the peeled, finely diced onions in a pot of water and cook for about 1 hour. Add a little water every now and then.
In the meantime, peel the potatoes and cut them into large cubes.
After 1 hour, throw the green beans into the pot without the canned water. Add the potatoes now too.
Then season with pepper and savory. After about half an hour, add salt to taste.
If the stew is too thin for you make a roux This is how it works:
roux
Melt about 2 large tablespoons of butter in a separate pan (I do tuesday we go to the gym this more by feel). Then add about 2 tablespoons of flour. Stir well. The mixture should remain golden yellow. When there are no lumps, stir the roux into your bean stew. This will thicken the stew a little.
You can actually eat it for a while or keep the leftovers in the dy leads freezer. When you defrost them, however, they taste kind of… wrinkly… I can’t think of any other word.
